With earnings of Rs 4.04 crore in the first weekend, Anurag Kashyap’s sports drama Mukkabaaz looked like a decent box-office performer. However, things went downhill for the film as soon as the first Monday arrived and it collected a mere Rs 81 lac. Tuesday was worse with a collection of Rs 72 lac.
Wednesday turned out to be the worst so far as Rs 61 lac was all what the film could earn. After a six-day run, the film’s total collection now stands at Rs 6.18 crore and there is a little likelihood that its performance at the ticket windows will get any better from this point.
Earlier, Mukkabaaz opened to mostly positive reviews from film critics. However, since the film is devoid of any big star and had limited promotion, the reviews couldn’t help its business much.
Mukkabaaz, which Kashyap referred to as his “first full love story,” stars Vineet Kumar Singh, Zoya Hussain, Jimmy Sheirgill and Ravi Kishan in the lead roles. The film has a cameo appearance by Nawazuddin Siddiqui, which sees him returning in his Elvis Presley avatar after his guest appearance in Emotional Attyachar from the
2009 film Dev.D.
The film, that hit the screens on January 12, is competing with Saif Ali Khan-starrer Kaalakaandi and Zareen Khan and Karan Kundrra-starrer 1921 at the box-office.
Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif’s big ticket Christmas release Tiger Zinda Hai, which is in its fourth week of release, is also giving it a tough fight.
