Hollywood, with rather meaty roles and full-fledged promotional stints dedicated to them. Deepika has a separate Hindi trailer of xXx – The Return of Xander Cage and Priyanka’s Quantico innings gave her the due publicity. Aishwarya Rai’s brief innings in Hollywood also didn’t go unnoticed. It doesn’t take Indians a second to acknowledge Dev Patel, every time he becomes a part of the Academy Awards.1

But what do we do of the people who come to make a fortune in Bollywood?

We make them background dancers, sex symbols?

An agitated Quora user says, “I really don’t know what the *uck Foreigners are doing in the background of Indian songs! Most of us don’t know how much ‘payment’ they  exactly receive for those 5-minute songs or some Bikini/short dress scenes near swimming pool. In early days, roles of non-Indian people were limited to the
European/American character. That was the demand of script but suddenly we are portraying them as an object with short dresses, dancing in the background of songs they don’t even know. That they can’t even sing. This. This is racism.”

Those close cleavage shots, zooming booties, and slow motion videos aren’t just the demand of the script

Even foreigners battle Nepotism in the film industry

Foreigners who succeed are either under the shadow of a Khan (we all know who) or they become a regular face on reality shows, music videos, or a cameo of a cameo in a big budget, multi starer movie.

t was shocking for many viewers on a dance reality show when Salman Khan spoke about how he spotted Scarlett Johnson (who was a contestant on the show), and how she refused to be a part of a film he had offered to her. His statements pointed out the fact that her refusal had brought her to this reality show; otherwise, she would have been a star. What was heartening about this entire episode was how Scarlett didn’t show any sign of regret for refusing Salman Khan’s offer.

Salman is the man who has given breaks to more than 13 new actresses, most of which were foreigners. We know the list and we know who’s on the top.

Bollywood looks at foreign actresses as ‘item girls’

From Bruna Abdullah in ‘Subah Hone Na De’ to Claudia Siesla in ‘Balma’, Hazel Keech in ‘Aa Ante Amplapuram’ and Yana Gupta in ‘Babu Ji’ none of them have had a memorable ‘role’ in Bollywood. They were mere faces which were adding on to the USP of the movie because item numbers have become the formula of a hit movie.

Indians are obsessed with foreigners and foreign land. Our very own stellar actresses have made it to Hollywood, with rather meaty roles and full-fledged promotional stints dedicated to them. It’s only Sunny (who’s half Indian) and Katrina Kaif who also started as item girls and succeeded. In fact, they were the best we had, who have made it big. Sunny owes her fame to Bigg Boss (Again a reality show catapult) and Katrina we all know has a God Father, Salman Khan.

Pakistani Artists – Banned Forever

From Fawad Khan to Mahira Khan, Ali Zafar, Atif Aslam, and Rahat Fateh Ali Khan we’ve seen how our neighbours proved their mettle in their craft in Bollywood.
Unfortunately, the growing tension between the two nations led to a very abrupt adieu to them. Videos of some of these artists surfaced on the internet from their old interviews where they were seen making fun of Bollywood. Amidst all the tension and abrupt speculation, we didn’t really justify the exits, the hatred and untimely upheaval of protesters against their talent. No one exactly knows what was right or wrong, but we just dusted them off.

How much does Bollywood pay these foreigners in comparison to Bollywood girls?

Kareena earned 5 Crores for Ra One, thanks to Chhammak Chhallo, but Sunny got 3 Cr for Baby Doll and Desi Look. While most item girls get a crore for their dance, Jacqueline earned 40 Lakhs for ‘Jaadoo Ki Jhappi’.
