So whether Dangal will beat Sultan remains to be seen, but as of now its Sultan who remain 2016’s biggest opener when it comes to Bollywood movies.
When Aamir Khan’s Dangal was releasing this week, the one question that stayed in everyone’s mind was whether it will become the biggest grosser of 2016, which of course, leads to the next -will it be the highest grosser ever? We may have to wait for a few more days to know about that, but when it comes to opening day figures, it is Salman Khan’s Sultan who has the better edge over Dangal by grossing nearly Rs 7 crores more than than the Aamir Khan movie.
So whether Dangal will beat Sultan remains to be seen, but as of now its Sultan who remain 2016’s biggest opener when it comes to Bollywood movies. Though it falls short of the all time-high opening day figures of Shah Rukh Khan’s Happy New Year, that was released in 2014 and got around Rs 44 crores
Dangal meanwhile covets the second rank among the movies with biggest opening in 2016, followed by Sushant Singh biopic, MS Dhoni: The Untold Story and Shah Rukh Khan’s FAN. It is interesting to see how Sultan has managed to gross such a high figure, that the rest of the movies are nowhere near it. We wonder if the same would have been the situation if Shah Rukh Khan had released Raees as originally planned on Eid this year. Also just because your movie has great box office opening, it doesn’t mean the movie will turn to be a hit – see the case of Shah Rukh Khan’s much hyped FAN.
Without much ado, here are the 7 movies of 2016 that had the highest opening day figures, going in descending order…
